Welcome to the #PLENK2010 blog. This blog is one of the tools that will be available to you in your communication and collaboration with others around the globe. It will also be one of the tools the facilitators, Stephen Downes, George Siemens, Dave Cormier and me, Rita Kop, will use to let you know new developments in the course, or any particular insights we have had about Personal Learning Environments Networks and Knowledge throughout the ten weeks of the course.
Stephen Downes has posted a video in the Moodle general discussion forum to explain to you how you can set up your own blog and how you can ensure that the course aggregator, Grsshopper, will pick up your thoughts and communications.
In the recordings section of the course wiki you can already find the first Elluminate recording of the introductory session, so if you missed attending Friday’s session, or if you miss any future ones, because of time issues for instance, you can always find the course recordings there.
By Monday you will receive the course Daily that will distribute to you all blog posts, Twitter messages and other artifacts that have been posted using the #PLENK2010 tag. It will also provide you with the resources and readings for the week.
If that’s not enough for you; throughout the course you’ll find out other environments in which participants are setting up and distributing information and artifacts. Over 900 people have enrolled so far, so it will be fun!
Watch this space!
Rita

excited about this.
It’s not clear to me (which isn’t the same as “it’s not clear”) where to leave general comments or questions. So I’m using this, but feel free to cancel the comment.
(1) I’m registered for the course. I’ve seen Twitter messages saying there’s been an email, but I don’t see one. (I searched my email for all occurrences of “PLENK.” No luck.) Should I have gotten one? Maybe it’s still en route?
(2) On the main blog page, when I clicked the Home button at the top, I got an error message:
The requested URL /plenk2010/connect.downes.ca/ was not found on this server.
(3) Where DO you want this general, non-content kind of stuff?
Hi Dave
we are not fully operational yet, so that’s why not everything is working yet. The course will start on Monday, but you should have received a Daily in your inbox last night with information on the PLENK research. Please respond if you didn’t receive this one and I will find out why.
Regards
Rita
Hi, Rita:
Thanks for the reply. I knew things weren’t working, but thought I’d at least ask the questions.
At the time I wrote my comment, I was registered at connect.downes.ca but (apparently) not on the Moodle at ple.elg.ca — would that have made a difference?
As it is, I checked the details for my spam filter and found a 9/8 message from PLENK2010 (stephen@downes.ca). If that’s the one I should have gotten, then I’m all set (after telling the spam-catcher to let this one through).
Great to be here. I’m looking forward to lots of learning experiences.
Thank You! This will be fun.

I am delighted and excited to be research on PLE and PLN. It is very new for Thai educators.
Empiezo el día muy temprano aquí en la Ciudad de México. Estoy realmente ansioso de adquirir nuevos conocimientos en estos interesantes métodos de aprendizaje. Hasta la fecha no he recibido el Daily. Buena suerte a todos.
Hi. Do you have a paper explaining the difference between aggregate and remix? Maybe I’ve read too fast, but the explanation on this website seems to fit more the words (in this order): Access and Aggregate.
Thanks.
looking forward to this experience unfolding – really dependent on the emails at the moment because I’ve not had time to investigate the site yet and get my bearings – keep the sign posts coming
I guess I am starting well–totally overwhelmed. I feal parts of me shutting down in order to try to protect my goals and focus. I have a limited amount of time available and have to make choices on where to put my attention. This to me is a problem that students will also face in their journey in making sense of my courses (Biology). What is the appropriate degree of guidance I am ethically required to give them. Also, my students vary greatly in their need for guidance. Some need a lot; others benefit from being offered very little.
It is funny that I just found this in my web review – something I do almost daily based on my RSS feeds in my mail. I am all ready quite involved all over the web- maybe too much!!!! LOL
But, the reason for the post is that I am presenting on PLN next Monday at KU Village 2010 (it is actually a preconference presentation that I am doing 2 times using Adobe Connect. I am excited to see this course as I wanted to do more research on this topic and expand my presentation (although I tend to get too long most of the time).
I am glad we are also not getting credit for this as I do not have the ability to guarantee that I could accomplish everything this semester due to my schedule.
Thanks for doing this!!!!!!
I am also a newby on this system and I have been having a few technical issues.
1)how do I categorize this with #PLENK2010 or some other “tag”? I am used to using PmWiki blogs which allows all entries to be categorized. I do not see a button for categorizing on PLENK? Is it done automatically?
2)I went to http://connect.downes.ca/new_feed.htm , thinking it was a tool to subscribe to a RSS feed; however, the requested information implies that the tool works the other way. It tags my websites to make them available to others. Please clarify. I do not necessarily wish to share all I do with others; at least not yet.
3) Can one edit (or at least preview) ones blog? Again I am used to PmWiki blogging which allows the blogger to go back and edit entries. I find that useful, when I inadvertently forget something or misspell a word.
The survey link in the Daily seems resistant to being opened – any ideas?
Ah, I see the markup has been corrupted – just positing the actual link works fine.
Enthusiastic about the course and waiting for the collaboration and participation. Greetings from Orizaba, Veracruz, Mexico
Hi,
I submitted two replies this morning. A message was put up “Waiting to be approved by moderator”. The replies have now disappeared. What am I doing wrong?
Made it! Looking forward to learning with and getting to know all of you.
Glad to be here. I look forward to enjoy new learning experiences.

Hi, I also did not receive an email telling me things were starting. I just happened to see Stephanie’s post on ETC Journal and popped over to look. What do I need to do to get started?
I am following from Zambia, Africa. I am sure PLENK will be very relevant for our MoE-VVOB programme over here. I am excited!
I am very happy to participate in this course massive but this last week I have not had much time to explore the site, I promise to be more active in the coming days.
Saludos a mis compatriotas mexicanos… Vamos inovando!!
