Stepehen Downes
Stephen Downes

Stephen Downes works for the National Research Council of Canada where he has served as a Senior Research, based in Moncton, New Brunswick, since 2001. Affiliated with the Learning and Collaborative Technologies Group, Institute for Information Technology, Downes specializes in the fields of online learning, new media, pedagogy and philosophy and is the PLE Project Leader.

Downes is perhaps best known for his daily newsletter, OLDaily, which is distributed by web, email and RSS to thousands of subscribers around the world. He has published numerous articles both online and in print, including The Future of Online Learning (1998), Learning Objects (2000), Resource Profiles (2003), and E-Learning 2.0 (2005). He is a popular speaker, appearing at hundreds of events around the world over the last fifteen years.

Luc Belliveau
Luc Belliveau

Luc Belliveau works for the National Research Council of Canada where he has served as a Systems Support Specialist, based in Moncton, New Brunswick, since 2003. Affiliated with the Technology and Research Directorate, Luc specializes in web technologies and electronic learning.

Todd Bingham
Todd Bingham

Todd Bingham has over ten years of experience designing and developing web based application. Todd has worked for large corporations, small starts ups and research organizations such at the NRC. Todd specializing in developing and delivering open source technologies. He currently works as part of the PLE project team with the Learning and Collaborative Technologies group at the National Research Council of Canada. Todd Holds a BA from Dalousie University, a BSc from the University of Maine (Orono) and a diploma in Applied Information Technology.

Dr. Bruno Emond

Dr. Bruno Emond joined NRC-IIT in 2001 and holds a B.A. and M.A. in philosophy from the University of Montreal, and a Ph.D. in educational psychology (applied cognitive science) from McGill University (1995). Dr. Emond's research focuses on critical issues for broadband e-learning and fundamental issues related to human cognition and learning. Dr. Emond's scientific focus on cognitive modelling technology is based on the development of models and extensions to the ACT-R (Atomic Component of Thought) cognitive architecture for the purpose of analysing human performance data through simulations.

Dr. Hélène Fournier
Helene Fournier

Dr. Hélène Fournier has been a Research Officer at the National Research Council Canada's Institute for Information Technology since 2002 and holds a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from McGill University. She has been involved at all levels of technology integration from early adoption of laptop computers in the classroom to advanced technology applications in the training sector. Her research has focused on the use of virtual worlds and mobile technologies in distance education, human factors and human-computer interaction, and applying learner-centered design principles to educational and training systems.

She has collaborated on Pan-Canadian research in education and with the Canadian Council of Learning's Adult Learning Knowledge Center in identifying priorities for research in adult learning across Canada, working with partners across all provinces, in both university and industry settings.

Jason Hines

Jason Hines is the newest and youngest member to join the PLE project at National Research Council Canada where he provides research and technical support. He is currently pursuing a M.Sc. in Applied Science at Saint Mary's University where he also holds a B.Sc. in Computing Science and Business Administration. Jason's interests include Web search, visual search, and adaptive interfaces.

Dr. Rita Kop
Rita Kop

Rita Kop is a researcher with the NRC IIT-Learning and Collaborative Technologies group and her research currently focuses on Personal Learning Environments. Before she joined she was an assistant professor in Adult Continuing Education at Swansea University in the UK after a career as teacher and head-teacher in Dutch primary education. Rita holds a Ph.D in Adult Continuing Education and has a wide experience of managing, developing and researching semi-autonomous learning systems and has written extensively about widening access to Higher Education and e-learning. Her research interests are personalized learning, distance education and learning through online networks, the impact of technology on the concept of knowledge, learning and teaching, widening access to adult education, and institutional change.

Dr. Chaouki Regoui
Chaouki Regoui

Dr. Chaouki Regoui is a research officer with the NRC IIT-Learning and Collaborative Technologies group.

His research focuses on user and resource profiling, inference, recommender and collaborative filtering.

He worked for the past thirteen years on integration of Artificial Intelligence/Pattern Recognition techniques in real world business applications, acting as researcher and technical manager for several projects in New Brunswick, Quebec and France.

He holds a PhD. in Computer Science from Paris V-University, an MCS degree in Image Processing from the National Institute of Nuclear Sciences (France) & an engineering degree in Automatics from the University of Annaba (Algeria)

Dr. Hanan Sitlia
Hanan

Dr. Hanan Sitlia is currently a student enrolled in the Information Technology coop program at the Univesité de Moncton (UdeM), New Brunswick Canada. She joined the NRC as coop student in may 2009 and she is now working with the PLE Team. Hanan was a postdoctoral researcher in security in RFID at U de M. She received the Ph.D. degree es-sciences from the Ibn Tofaïl University in Morocco at 2007. Before that, she worked as an IT manager in a business company in Morocco and IT auditor on APC-Maroc project financed by CIDA. She received her master's degree in Information Systems Security from ESIEA in France at 2005 and another master's degree es-science at 1999 from Hassan II University in Casablanca-Morrocco as well as a bachelor from Mohamed V University in Rabat-Morrocco at 1993. Now she is preparing her Cisco Certificate and I.T coop diploma from UdeM.
